Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has hailed Philippe Coutinho on FIFA.Com, just months after it was claimed that he wanted a move back to Anfield.
According to the Sunday World (14/06, back page), Coutinho was keen on a move to Liverpool in the summer.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side ultimately decided that making a move for the Barcelona playmaker wasn’t worthwhile.
Liverpool did strengthen their attack with the addition of Diogo Jota.
But Firmino may have some disappointment that the Reds didn’t push to sign Coutinho, judging by his latest comments about the attacking midfielder.
“He’s phenomenal,” he said. “You simply can’t say that he’s not a magician. He has magical powers. He produces plays that don’t exist, that you couldn’t make up. You always have to watch replays of his plays to understand what he’s done.
“He’s an unbelievable player. It was a pleasure to play with him at Liverpool, and it’s a pleasure to play with him for the Seleção. I’m a huge fan of his. He’s one of the very best players in the world.”
If Liverpool were to go back in for Coutinho now, their task of signing him may have become much more difficult.
Barca seemingly wanted to cash in on Coutinho in the early part of the summer, but since Ronald Koeman has come in he has been given another chance.
Coutinho has featured in all three of Barca’s La Liga games so far, scoring once and claiming two assists.
