NFL’s New Orlean Saints confirmed that Michael Thomas won’t be playing Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, though fans were shocked to find out it was due to punching a team mate and not his ongoing ankle injury. What fans really want to know however, is who did Michael Thomas punch?
An anonymous source spoke to Associated Press and revealed that Michael has been banned for one game after an altercation during practice on Saturday.
According to the source, Michael was kicked out of practice immediately and informed of his ban after a video review of the incident by coaches.
But, who did Michael Thomas punch?
It turns out that the receiver of the punch was in fact defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, as confirmed by the same source.
Although, there is no information around who started the altercation or what it was about, Saints reporter Nick Underhill tweeted: “there was jawing back and forth and then Thomas hit him, leading to a fight.”
It isn’t Michael and Chauncey’s first fight either, as the pair allegedly fought last year too around the time of the Seattle game in September.
Michael had already missed weeks of games after a high-ankle sprain during the Week 1 game against the Green Bay Packers on September 14th.
What have the New Orleans Saints said about the fight at practice?
Although the team haven’t released an official statement on the punch, they updated the injury report on their site, writing: “New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas has been ruled out for Monday’s game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers. The change in game status is not injury related-team discipline.”
Neither Michael nor Chauncey have posted about the fight at practice on their social media.
