The prime minister is expected to announce new lockdown rules today but what time will Boris Johnson address the nation today?

With soaring Covid-19 cases around the country, tougher lockdown restrictions have become an inevitability.

Over the past nine days (October 3rd-11th), the UK has seen more than 10,000 cases per day, if not more, around twice the level we saw back in March and April.

As such, it was only a matter of time before the government announced further restrictions to attempt to halt the increasingly rapid spread of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to appear before the House of Commons today (October 12th) and to give a national address on TV to set out the new rules.

But just what new rules are being announced and what time will Boris Johnson address the nation today?

Boris Johnson to announce new three-tier lockdown system

The prime minister is expected to announce a host of new Covid-19 restrictions on Monday, October 12th.

According to The Guardian, these restrictions will be introduced in a three-tier system, ranging from medium (tier one) and high risk (tier two) to very high risk (tier three).

Tier three areas are those most at risk and have had the most number of cases in recent days. Tier three areas are expected to include cities such as Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.

Measures such as shutting pubs, bars, gyms and betting shops appear to be the most likely outcome while a decision on whether restaurants can remain open is expected to be made on Monday according to The Guardian.

Elsewhere in tier one and tier two areas, restrictions such as a ban on house visits and mixing indoors are expected to remain in force.
