FIFA agent David Bellantone has told Tuttomermercatoweb how Porto have emerged as surprise suitors for Yaya Sanogo following his failed Middlesbrough move.
The former Arsenal man is a free agent after a spell with Toulouse.
The 27-year-old has Premier League experience, featuring for the Gunners and Crystal Palace before making a permanent move to France in 2017.
Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock wanted extra firepower upfront during the summer.
Sanogo became a Middlesbrough target, and Teesside Live claim a deal was on the verge of happening before Boro pulled the plug due to concerns over his fitness.
Now, FIFA agent Bellantone claims Porto are among the clubs considering him.
“He was very close to both Parma and Hellas Verona, while Spezia thought about it before the situation regarding Nzola was unblocked. For Sanogo, however, there is the hypothesis of Portugal with Sporting Lisbon and Porto who are considering whether to offer him a contract or not,” Bellantone explained.
It would be quite a shock to see Sanogo end up at Porto.
The Frenchman suffered relegation with Toulouse last season, scoring just three goals in 15 games.
Boro, meanwhile, didn’t dally long in the transfer market as they signed another former Arsenal player in Chuba Akpom from Greek side PAOK.
Akpom has netted twice so far for Boro, helping them to victory over Barnsley.
Warnock has often utilised big strikers in the Championship. In Akpom, Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher, there is enough there to see the club challenging.
