Tottenham Hotspur came so close to signing Milan Skriniar, FC Inter News have reported.

Tottenham made a late push to sign Skriniar over the summer, and it seems if they had stepped up their chase earlier then they may well have got their man.

Spurs ultimately failed to reach Inter’s asking price for Skriniar, as Antonio Conte’s side felt that they didn’t have enough time to secure a replacement.

But the Italian report suggests that if Tottenham’s bid had come in just a few days earlier then they would have got their man.

Spurs concentrated on getting other deals done before looking to secure a central defender, and that may be of some regret now.

Skriniar would have been a hugely appealing addition to their squad, as the Slovakian is considered to be one of the most solid defenders in Italy.

Spurs have now seemingly moved on from signing Skriniar, with Football London suggesting that Joe Rodon of Swansea City is on their wishlist.

Rodon looks like a massively exciting prospect, but Skriniar is on another level to the Welsh international.

Skriniar has played football at the top level for a number of years now, and would surely have been ready to step into Tottenham’s starting line-up straight away, if he had arrived.
