Kevin Campbell believes that a move for Houssem Aouar remains high on Arsenal’s list of priorities, claiming he is ‘next on the radar’.

The Gunners spent £45 million on signing Thomas Partey on deadline day.

But they had to because it was already clear at that stage that Arsenal’s hierarchy wouldn’t be bringing in the Lyon playmaker.

Aouar had been linked with a move to North London for months but, despite two bids, the largest of which being £35 million, it wasn’t enough to tempt the Ligue 1 club into selling.

Despite the summer window just shutting, we’re now only a few months away from January and the transfer mill should start up soon enough on that.

And Campbell is confident that the 22-year-old will be a ‘Gunner at some stage’ after tipping Edu to renew an interest.

He told The Highbury Squad on YouTube: “Houssem Aouar, we missed you. We didn’t get you this time! Whether we can get you in January, I’m not sure. But I’m sure you’re next on the radar for Mikel Arteta and Edu.

“Somebody like yourself to add to the quality of that midfield, attacking, creative side. You hopefully will be a Gunner at some stage in the future.”

It’s hard to know whether Arsenal even need Aouar.

Still, it’s early days but the indication so far is that it’ll be an absolute dogfight to get into the Champions League places, with Spurs and Everton enjoying outstanding starts to the season.

But let’s see what improvement Partey has on Mikel Arteta’s side first.
