Is The Boys cancelled? Audiences are growing curious, so let’s explain the Amazon series’ renewal status and the fate of season 3.

Some may argue that it would take a bunch of superheroes to save 2020 at this point.

On the other hand, hardcore fans of The Boys would assert that they already have thanks to the arrival of season 2 back in September.

Developed by Eric Kripke and based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name, the series premiered in the summer of 2019 and was quick to earn a very devoted following.

After the release of Avengers: Endgame, there was much speculation regarding whether superhero fatigue would set in.

The Boys arguably eradicated such a possibility for fans and season 2 continues to elaborate on the characters and mythology of this curious universe.

Is The Boys cancelled?

  • No, The Boys is not cancelled. The future is bright for the series, so let’s explain where the confusion may stem from.

As highlighted by Variety, Amazon Prime Video renewed the popular series for a third season back in July. Yet, there’s even more…

According to Den of Geek, Amazon also announced they’ll be working on rolling out a spinoff series too!

As of yet, it doesn’t have a name but we know it’ll be set at a college which facilitates superpowered teens. The previous source addresses the official synopsis provided by Amazon:

“The Untitled Boys Spinoff is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys.”

As for why fans thought it was cancelled, it may have something to do with the misreading of a headline from The Ringer which reads: “Glow is Canceled. Plus: The Good Lord Bird, The Boys, and Ryan and Musa from ‘Stadio’ on All or Nothing.”

They’re covering the cancellation of Netflix’s GLOW. However, some may have misread the headline thinking that the other titles listed had been cancelled.

This is not the case. On the podcast, they simply discuss a moment of violence featured in The Boys.

The Boys renewal status: Season 3

Needless to say, The Boys has proven very popular for Amazon and plans are already in place to explore this world further.

As noted by Variety, Vernon Sanders – co-head of television, Amazon Studios – expressed regarding the renewal:

“Eric Kripke and the incredible cast of ‘The Boys’ continue to deliver a wild and action-packed series full of surprises and can’t-miss moments that have made the series a global hit. We couldn’t be more excited to see where Eric takes The Boys and the supes in Season 3, and to have Aisha Tyler join The Boys family as the host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys.”

Fans have lots to look forward to.
