The Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access is now available on Steam and it’s been praised for all of its classes and races. While the game looks incredible and promises to be everything and more you’d expect from Larian Studios, console gamers have been left asking: is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to PS4 and Xbox One? Here you’ll discover why a PS5 and Xbox Series X release appears more likely.
While Baldur’s Gate 3 is only available in Early Access format on PC, the game has been deemed an “excellent return to D&D’s forgotten realms,” and this is largely because of its excellent roster of classes and races, coupled with incredible freedom through a plethora of choices. There’s also plenty of game despite it being Early Access, and this is because a standard playthrough is more than reasonably long, and there’s also no shortage of replayability.
Below you’ll discover whether the game is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, and you’ll also learn why a PS5 and Xbox Series X release appears more likely.
Will Baldur’s Gate 3 be on PS4 and Xbox One?
Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be on PS4 and Xbox One.
Larian Studios’ David Walgrave, executive producer on Baldur’s Gate 3, has seemingly ruled out the possibility of the game being on PS4 and Xbox One in the future.
This is because he told Eurogamer back in February that he doesn’t believe “current-gen consoles would be able to run it”.
While PS4 and Xbox One gamers will be disappointed by this response, it doesn’t entirely rule out a current-gen release as Walgrave also said that it could possibly happen by toning down the textures and such.
However, a next-gen console release appears more likely.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X?
It seems likely that Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X rather than PS4 and Xbox One.
As for why Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X is more likely, it’s because Larian Studios have said that the game might not be able to run on current-gen consoles.
While Walgrave didn’t specifically refer to either Sony or Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, a release still seems likely as Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 both made the transition from PC to console a year or so after their launch.
In addition, the Baldur’s Gate collection is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and Walgrave admitted this was done to maximise the audience for Baldur’s Gate 3.
This would suggest that PlayStation and Xbox gamers will eventually be able to get their hands on the third instalment, but nothing is official as of writing.
So, as of this moment, Baldur’s Gate 3 is simply exclusive to PC.
