Report: ‘Very talented’ player really wants to join Everton today

Sergio Romero is keen on a deadline day move to Everton, BBC Sport claim (13:34).

Everton are now hunting for a new goalkeeper, after Jordan Pickford blundered again at the weekend.

Pickford seems to have made one error too many now, and Romero is being lined up to give him more competition for his place.

Romero has proven himself to be one of the most reliable back-up stoppers in the entirety of the Premier League during his time with United.

But he has now slipped down to third choice at Old Trafford, after the return of Dean Henderson.

With his chances of playing greatly increased if he does make the switch to Everton, it is thought that the Argentine, who was described as ‘very talented’ by Louis van Gaal (Guardian), would be eager to complete a move today, if the opportunity presents itself.

Everton have started the season in brilliant form, and would be intriguing to see whether Carlo Ancelotti would back Romero to walk straight into his starting line-up if he was to join, or keep faith in Pickford for the time being.
