Nikita Dragun defends herself against blackfishing claims

Nikita Dragun has been a topic of controversy online recently, after videos of her wearing clothes from different cultures have been circulating around the internet.

Many internet users have been posting TikToks accusing Nikita of blackfishing and appropriating other races and cultures.

On October 4th, Nikita posted a tweet which said: “What race is Nikita Dragun gonna be today?”

One fan uploaded a picture where Nikita’s skin looks considerably darker than usual, and Nikita replied saying:

“I was hired as a model. I didn’t have any control over editing. I showed up did my job and left. This was a photo from that same day.”

Nikita attached a photograph which she claimed was from the same day, where her skin is much lighter, perhaps to show that she did not make her own skin look darker, and that it was the editing.

What race is Nikita Dragun?

Nikita Dragun is Mexican and Asian, and is therefore mixed. She tweeted explaining that growing up mixed was difficult for her. Nikita tweeted:

“Growing up mixed I was never enough or fully accepted. I don’t have to pick a side. I am not incomplete of my races. I do not lack anything. I am proud of ALL of me.”

She then went on to call out fans who have accused her of cultural appropriation, and trying to change race and said:

“I know it’s a joke to comment on my race but I’m really tired of having to defend myself on every post. “She’s hispanic today” I’m hispanic everyday. My mom is mexican. My dad is asian. I’m mixed. The end. Bye.”
