Sampdoria defender Omar Colley is unlikely to be moving to the Premier League on deadline day despite interest from Sheffield United and Fulham, agent Cheikh Fall has told SampNews24.

While we might have expected to see Scott Parker’s Cottagers struggle in the top flight, few would have expected Chris Wilder’s Blades to be joining them in the relegation zone heading into the first international break of 2020/21.

Defeats to Wolves and Arsenal on Sunday mean neither Fulham nor Sheffield United have picked up a single point between them so far this season.

But, if either club was hoping to ease the pain by signing one of the most impressive central defenders in Italian football, they will be disappointed.

“There is no news on the Omar Colley negotiation,” Fall said of the Gambia international with an £11 million release clause in his contract.

“At the moment I think moving to the Premier League is very difficult, almost impossible. The most interested remain Sheffield United and Fulham but Sampdoria want a sale while the English clubs are more focused on other formulas.

“There’s also a problem with his passport and there’s basically no time to close the transfer.”

With the window due to slam shut this evening, time is running out for Sheffield United and Fulham if they want to reinforce a backline that has looked far from secure since the season begun.

The Cottagers at least have a host of alternative options lined up, including PSV’s Timo Baumgartl and Lyon’s Joachim Andersen.
