Sheffield United want to sign the defender, Diego Rico, and their former attacking midfielder, David Brooks, from Bournemouth, according to The Sun (2 October, page 55).
Speaking via The Star earlier this week the Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, confirmed his desire to bring Brooks back to Bramall Lane – should the Welshman become available.
But Rico’s name is not one that Wilder has mentioned publicly before.
It is, though, one that makes sense given that the Blades are expected to be without Jack O’Connell for the rest of this season through injury.
Though a left-back naturally, Rico has played centre-back before and could prove a useful stand in, in O’Connell’s usual role on the left of a back three.
Bournemouth are said to have paid the Spanish side Leganes £10.7 million for Rico two years ago, and the Spaniard is half-way through the contract he signed amid reported interest from Borussia Dortmund.
But it remains to be seen how much the Cherries would ask for now.

Bournemouth spent a similar amount on Brooks that same summer, but the former Sheffield United and Manchester City prospect has since been linked with moves worth around five times that.
Both Rico and Brooks can still be signed by Sheffield United after the main transfer deadline passes on Monday, with deals between Premier League and EFL clubs still permitted until 16 October.
