Jose Mourinho has revealed that Giovani Lo Celso is an injury concern for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
The Argentine midfielder scored two wonderful first-half goals for Spurs on Thursday as Mourinho’s side thumped Maccabi Haifa 7-2 in Europa League qualifying.
But Lo Celso didn’t appear for Tottenham in the second half after the Portuguese swapped him for Dele Alli at the break.
Given that the North Londoners were winning 4-1 at the time, it might’ve been reasonable to assume Mourinho was saving him for the Red Devils, but the head coach claims that there’s a ‘question mark’ over whether the former Paris Saint-Germain playmaker is going to be fit enough.
He told Spurs’ official website: “I don’t think it was a special performance from us but, again, job done. Apart from Lo Celso, who is now a question mark for Sunday, no more problems. So, yes, job done.”
The 24-year-old is looking and playing like a man who’s bang in form and based on last night, Mourinho will definitely have wanted him fit for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford.
The Tottenham boss certainly has alternatives, but one of those is playing Harry Kane as a number 10 and although the red-hot hitman – who scored a hat-trick last night – is very capable and creative in that role, Mourinho needs him firing on all cylinders up front against Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s side.
