His family moved to Canada when Gavin was four years old. After highschool, he went on to graduate from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Gavin is best known as one of the co-founders of Vice Media, which he set up with Shane Smith and Suroosh Alvi in 1994.

During his time at Vice, McInnes contributed to a number of articles and also co-wrote two Vice books. He left the news publication in 2008.

Gavin founded Proud Boys back in 2016. The group’s members have described themselves as ‘Western chauvinists’ or ‘Western culturalists’, where ‘chauvinism’ is defined as a belief in the superiority of one’s own group or people over other cultures.

Gavin McInnes has left Proud Boys

Gavin left Proud Boys in 2018, a report by The Guardian said at the time.

The publication wrote that his decision came a few days after FBI had named the Proud Boys as “an extremist group with ties to white nationalism”.

Speaking about his exit from the group, Gavin said at the time:

“As of today, I am officially disassociating myself from the Proud Boys. I am told by my legal team and law enforcement that this gesture could help alleviate their sentencing.”

He added:

“Fine, at the very least this will show jurors they are not dealing with a gang and there is no head of operations.”

Where is Gavin McInnes now?

Gavin’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts were taken down in 2018.

Twitter removed his account for violating the app’s policy prohibiting “violent extremist groups” in August 2018.

Following in Twitter’s footsteps, Instagram and Facebook banned Gavin’s accounts in October of that year.

Meanwhile, Gavin’s YouTube was suspended in June this year but he has continued to make appearances on other online outlets.
