Sean Klaiber is closing in on a move to Eredivisie giants Ajax after emerging as a target for Leeds United, according to AD.

While a German international centre-back and a pair of big-money Spanish stars have jumped at the chance to share a dressing room with the legendary Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road, one of the most exciting full-backs in Dutch football appears immune to Leeds’ charms.

Speaking after Voetbal International reported in the summer that the Whites were interested, Klaiber told AD he planned to stick with an exciting Utrecht side aiming to push for Europe under highly rated coach John van den Brom.

But things change quickly in football and the 26-year-old appears to have performed a U-turn that would make Fabian Delph blush.

Because, according to AD, Klaiber is on his way to the Amsterdam Arena.

A deal has been agreed between Ajax and Utrecht, with the former Holland U21 international expected to replace Barcelona-bound Sergino Dest in Erik Ten Hag’s squad.

The deal will cost somewhere in the region of £5 million.

Fortunately for Leeds, Luke ‘the Lambeth Cafu’ Ayling has made the step up from the Championship to the Premier League like a duck to water, while the versatile Stuart Dallas is also capable of providing cover on the right.
