Things are looking a little bit brighter for Rodrigo at Leeds United.
The Whites beat Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane courtesy of a late winner from Patrick Bamford on Sunday.
Rodrigo, Leeds’ record £30 million signing, seemed to be finding it difficult to get to grips with the Premier League, after conceding a penalty on his debut against Liverpool and getting taken off at half-time in the win over Fulham last weekend.
But Sunday’s victory over the Blades brought out a much more positive performance from the former Valencia star, who came on for Tyler Roberts at the break.
There was a little bit more urgency in the visitors’ attack when Rodrigo came on, and Bielsa claimed in a press conference via Leeds Live that he took a ‘good step forward’ yesterday,.
He said: “He showed more of the player he is. He allowed attacks to finish in the opposition half and he played 45 minutes in which we played better, that makes it easier to play well. He also helped making us play better. A good step forward for him. He is a player who has the capacity to unbalance which he has not shown yet. As time goes on he will help to score goals and complete attacks.”
The 29-year-old would certainly prefer to play up front for Leeds, rather than a number 10 role, but Bielsa can’t drop Bamford and he only uses one central striker.
Bamford has scored in all three of United’s Premier League games so far and although Rodrigo is a bigger name, he isn’t a bigger player than the former Boro star for Bielsa at this moment in time.
