It has been reported that Celtic have had two bids for the 20-year-old midfielder turned down already, but the Glasgow giants have not given up on signing the Charlton Athletic youngster just yet.
The report has claimed that the Hoops are likely to offer more than their last bid of £600,000, and if they are rejected again, then they will look at loan options.
Doughty is a very good and promising left wing-back who can also play in midfield, although Celtic want to sign him to play at left-back, according to The Daily Record.
West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen played with the youngster during his loan spell at Charlton, and the 24-year-old recently raved about him, stating that he has “lots of pace”.
Cullen told West Ham’s official website on September 15, 2020: “Alfie Doughty is another one. He’s a left wing-back with lots of pace. He’s a direct player and is still only 20 or 21 so he’s a good young talent.”
According to WhoScored, Doughty has scored one goal in two League One appearances for Charlton so far this season.
During the 2019-20 campaign, the 20-year-old made 20 starts and nine substitute appearances in the Championship for the Addicks, scoring two goals and providing four assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
