Andros Townsend has told TalkSport Breakfast (23/09/20 at 9:10 am) that fans shouldn’t be surprised by Harry Kane’s performances as a number 10 for Tottenham.

The Crystal Palace winger, who came through the Spurs ranks with the striker, shared that fans ‘don’t realise’ that’s a role Kane has done for ‘many years’.

Kane remarkably supplied four assists during Tottenham’s 5-2 thumping of Southampton last time out, as he showcased his inner Kevin de Bruyne to the footballing world.

But Townsend, who would have seen what Kane was like as a youngster, made it clear that the number 10 role for Kane is something which is natural to him.

“People don’t realise Harry has always been a number 10,” Townend told TalkSport. “So those passes he was playing to Son, that’s something he has done for many years.

“When people are now surprised he’s doing it but that was his position before.”

  3. Matt Doherty

  4. Sergio Reguilon

  5. Gareth Bale

With the arrival of Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son’s versatility, it will be interesting to see what role Kane will play for Jose Mourinho during these coming months.

Given the quality of all three players, Mourinho could easily play any one of them as a number nine or even ask them to drop back as a number 10.

Either way, it’s going to make them formidable and when they get going they will damage a number of teams in the final third.
