Arsenal target David Raya was made captain by Brentford last night, during their League Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion.
Raya has been linked with an exit all summer, with the Daily Mail suggesting that he really wants a move to Arsenal.
However, Thomas Frank’s decision to put him into Brentford’s team and give him the armband may suggest that a move away is not close any more.
Arsenal have now signed another back-up stopper in Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson, and it seems that doing a deal for Raya may have just proved too problematic.
The Telegraph have said how Brentford are battling to keep their keeper from joining Arsenal, as they have no plans to sell him cheaply.
Arsenal apparently made a £10 million bid for Raya, but Brentford turned it down.
That may have proved to be a disappointment for the Spanish goalkeeper.
However, Raya still was very professional last night and proved to be the hero as he helped his side win on penalties.

“Good to have him back in goal, really good – and good to see him as a captain. Two really good saves from him,” Brentford boss Thomas Frank said to the club’s official website.
It will now be interesting to see whether Raya keeps his place, with the speculation over his future seemingly dying down in recent times.
