Southampton appear to be the mystery club rivalling West Ham United and Fulham for the Sporting winger, Jovane Cabral.
A Bola reported last month that West Ham, Fulham and a third English side were each in the running for Cabral’s signature, although Record appeared to rule Tottenham Hotspur out of contention despite the alleged interest of Jose Mourinho.
And, according to the latter publication, negotiations are now ‘well underway’ between Southampton and Sporting.
The Saints are said to be ‘making an effort’ to reach the Portuguese giants’ €20 million (around £18.3m) asking price.
And it is claimed the parties involved believe they can reach a successful outcome.
Cabral scored or made nine goals in 16 league games for the Portuguese giants last season – all but three of which arrived in an eight-match spell following the June restart.

And A Bola reported that West Ham and Fulham were ‘seriously considering moving forward with formal proposals’ for the player, which would have been close to meeting Sporting’s demands.
But Southampton, it seems, may just beat them to it.
