According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are hoping to finalise a deal for Preston North End midfielder Daniel Johnson this week.
It’s claimed that Steven Gerrard wants the deal done this week in order to get him in the Rangers side to face Motherwell this coming weekend.
Johnson allegedly wants to make the move to Ibrox, but there are ‘issues’ in Rangers’ attempts to bring him to Glasgow for £3million.
Rangers are pushing to land Johnson following their 2-2 draw at Hibernian, but Preston are making them work hard for a deal despite him being out of contract next summer.
What’s interesting is that Rangers may want Johnson on board for the game with Motherwell, but the Jamaican is currently out injured.
Johnson missed Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Norwich City, and Preston boss Alex Neil has confirmed that he will be out for at least a week.
That may mean that Johnson would miss out against Motherwell anyway, even if Rangers do convince Preston to sell this week.
A creative number 10 who contributed 12 goals and eight assists for Preston last season, Johnson could bring an added spark to the Rangers side – and this week could be crucial to their hopes of signing him.
