According to The Times, Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard would be open to speaking to Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s claimed that Lingard is ‘loath’ to leave his boyhood club having grown up supporting United, but knows he needs first-team football.

Lingard wasn’t even in the United squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, and that may be the final straw for Lingard at Old Trafford.

Lingard is allegedly wanted by Zenit St Petersburg, but he would be willing to hold talks with Tottenham if Jose Mourinho wants him.

There are conflicting reports about that; ESPN claim that Spurs are interested in Lingard, but Football.London state that there is no interest from Spurs.

The 27-year-old did impress under Mourinho at United, meaning a reunion could be what the midfielder wants – but it just seems unlikely that Spurs would want him.

Unless Dele Alli leaves the club, Spurs don’t need another attack-minded midfielder, and the fee required for Lingard is far beyond the form he has shown over the last year.

Add in that Lingard turns 28 in December, and Spurs paying up for Lingard just doesn’t add up – even if he’s interested in a move.
