Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new striker, and it seems like they’re linked with a new option every other day.

Benfica hitman Carlos Vinicius is one man being linked, with TVI24 claiming that he is now a target for Jose Mourinho after missing out on Haris Seferovic.

It’s claimed that Seferovic has rejected a move to Spurs, which would have been a season-long loan deal had he joined.

The 28-year-old striker is a hard-working target man with real strength to lead the line, which may well be why Mourinho wants him at Spurs.

However, this ultimately would have been a rather underwhelming move, as Seferovic really isn’t the calibre or quality of player Tottenham can depend on to help Harry Kane.

The Swiss international only managed five league goals in 30 games last season, which really isn’t the level of productivity Tottenham are seeking.

Outside of 23 goals in the 2018-19 campaign, Seferovic’s record has been disappointing; four goals in the 2017-18 season, 16 league goals in three seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt and just two goals in 24 games for Real Sociedad.

Seferovic’s glut of goals in that one season at Benfica seems like an anomaly, as goals have usually been hard to come by for him over the course of his career.

That isn’t what Spurs need right now, and whilst he could have been a low-cost option, he just doesn’t have the goal record that Tottenham should be looking to add behind Harry Kane before the October deadline.
