According to The Sunday Mirror (20/09, p73), Arsenal scouts have been impressed with Rennes teenager Georginio Rutter.
Reports emerged from L’Equipe earlier this month, which suggested that Arsenal had made contact about a deal for Rutter.
That report noted that Newcastle United have done the same though, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and AC Milan keen too.
Now, it’s stated that Lyon have joined the race too, and Arsenal scouts have been very impressed with him over the last year.
Gunners talent spotters have allegedly been attracted to the 18-year-old’s ‘pace, power and technical ability’ ahead of possibly making a move.
Rutter has turned down a new deal with Rennes, and would command a fee of around £10million according to this report.
Rutter predominantly plays as a striker, and is being tipped for a bright future depsite having no first-team appearances to his name just yet.
Arsenal have a couple of talented young attackers in Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli, so adding Rutter doesn’t seem like a priority right now given Arsenal’s need for midfield reinforcements – but they will know that they risk missing out if they don’t move soon.
