Tottenham Hotspur should be in the market for another centre back before the transfer window slams shut – and they could inadvertently receive a boost from Arsenal.
The Gunners need to clear the decks in defence with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes on board, and Shkodran Mustafi could be one player to go.
Corriere Della Sera report that Lazio now want to sign Mustafi, with sporting director Igli Tare a big fan of the central defender.
Lazio could sign either Mustafi or Southampton’s Wesley Hoedt, with the Italian side desperate to find a centre back, and Arsenal are willing to let the German go.
This could mean that Lazio are moving on from Beijing Guoan defender Kim Min-jae, and that’s where Mustafi’s move could help Tottenham.
SPOTV News in South Korea reported last week that Lazio had a bid accepted for Kim, but he was waiting to hear Tottenham’s final offer before settling on a move to Stadio Olimpico.
Tottenham are keen on Kim, and Son Heung-min is pushing for Spurs to sign his international teammate according to 90Min.
Mustafi to Lazio would surely rule out Kim heading there, leaving Spurs as the frontrunners to sign the 23-year-old Kim before next month’s transfer deadline.
Kim’s style of play is somewhat similar to Harry Maguire, a player Jose Mourinho wanted at Manchester United in 2018, so Tottenham’s interest is no great surprise.
The news of Lazio pivoting to Mustafi is a real boost for Tottenham, and Kim hanging on for a move to Spurs may just work out perfectly for himself and Tottenham – whilst Arsenal can offload a defender too.
