John Aldridge has suggested on Twitter that Fabinho can save Liverpool £30 million if he is happy to play as a central defender.

The former Liverpool striker made the comment following the Reds’ win against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Fabinho is a defensive midfielder by trade, but with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip out, the Brazil international was deployed as a central defender.

According to WhoScored, the Brazilian had a pass accuracy of 96.7%, took 102 touches, and made four tackles and four interceptions.

The 26-year-old held his own, did not panic when under pressure, and did well to stop Timo Werner from scoring.

Another option in central defence

With Thiago Alcantara having joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, there will be fierce competition for a place in the Reds’ midfield.

Playing in defence could be a good option for Fabinho, as it will assure him of a place in manager Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup.

For Liverpool, it seems that they do have a very good option in Fabinho as a centre-back.
