Darren Bent suggested on talkSPORT (7:40pm, September 20, 2020) that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Jesse Lingard should leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

The former Tottenham striker believes that Lingard – who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger – needs a change of scenery.

According to The Daily Star, Tottenham are planning to sign the 27-year-old England international in a £30 million deal.

Bent said on talkSPORT (7:40pm, September 20, 2020): “I like Jesse, but I think he does need a change of scenery. I think he needs to maybe get out of Old Trafford.

“I know that it has been his club since he was young, but I think everyone at some stage, unless things keep going well, keep going on the upward spiral, everyone needs a change of scenery, just to freshen up a little bit. I think Jesse is definitely one of them players that could do with a change of direction.”

From Manchester United to Tottenham Hotspur?

Lingard has been on the books of United his entire professional club football career so far, and there have been times when he has been very good for the team.

However, the Englishman has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and it is going to be hard for him to re-establish himself in the starting lineup.

According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old made nine starts and 13 substitute appearances in the Premier League last season, while during the 2018-19 campaign, he made 19 starts and eight substitute appearances in the league.

Lingard worked with Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho at United, and perhaps under the former Chelsea boss, he could recover his old form.
