The Estonian champions Flora Tallinn have announced that one of their young prospects has left them for Tottenham Hotspur.

Flora say Maksim Paskotsi has signed a three-year deal at Tottenham, whose academy he will join, after an undisclosed fee was agreed between the two club.

Paskotsi is a 17-year-old central defender who has already appeared twice for the Flora first team, according to Transfermarkt.

He is said to have undergone a trial spell at Tottenham’s Enfield Training Centre in August, after Spurs registered their interest the previous month.

Discussing his move with the official Flora website, Paskotsi said: “I can’t describe how happy I am right now! It is a very difficult but at the same time powerful step in my career.

“I want to thank all the Flora players and especially the coaches who gave me a lot and I am sure I will not forget these people and with them we will remain good friends. For coaches and players – thank you for your trust and experience! One club. One family!”

And the club’s sporting director, Norbert Hurt, was also happy with Paskotsi’s decision.

He added: “At the end of July we received information that Tottenham is interested in Maxim and would like to test him. Testing went well, Tottenham was pleased.

“At the same time, I got to know the club to get an idea of what the environment would be like if a player had to move there. It soon became clear that people were open and supportive. Every player brought in must have a representative team perspective.

“The players are not piled up either. In addition to the team’s training, individual plans are made on site to bring the player’s mastery to the highest possible level.”

Tottenham have allowed a trio of academy centre-backs, Luis Binks, Benjamin Watt and Maxwell Statham, to leave this year, while Timothy Eyoma is currently out on loan.

Should Paskotsi eventually make it into the Spurs first team, he would become the first ever Estonian to do so.
