David Thompson has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Liverpool reportedly about to sign Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The former Liverpool midfielder, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, believes that the 23-year-old is “a fantastic footballer” and is “quick and skillful”.
Thompson believes that the winger will score goals and create chances, and has backed him to be a success at Anfield.
According to The Times, Liverpool will pay Premier League rivals Wolves an initial transfer fee of £41 million to secure the services of the 23-year-old winger, who will sign a five-year contract.
The report has added that Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders pushed boss Jurgen Klopp to make the move, with his Portuguese contacts from his time at Porto giving him ‘strong references on the character of Jota and his ability to progress with coaching’.
According to WhoScored, Jota scored seven goals and provided one assist in the Premier League, and scores six goals in the Europa League last season, while during the 2018-19 campaign, the winger scored nine goals and provided five assists in the league for Wolves.
