‘No concrete proposals’: President plays down Tottenham and Wolves moves for £25m forward

Paulinho will stay at Braga despite being linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa after the club’s president played down reports of his departure to Radio Renascenca.

The late-blooming striker may be in the form of his life aged 27 but it looks for all the world like he’s destined to spend at least one more season banging in the goals in Portugal.

Paulinho scored a career-best 25 goals in all competitions last season for a Braga side that secured third place ahead of Sporting Lisbon.

However, with just three weeks until the transfer window slams shut, a life-changing switch to arguably the most high-profile league in Europe appears to have passed him by.

90Min reported earlier this month that Jose Mourinho’s Spurs had identified Paulinho as the man to ease the burden on Harry Kane.

But he is just one of a host of strikers on an ever-lengthening Tottenham hit-list.

A potential £25 million move to Molineux isn’t going to happen either, with Raul Jimenez staying and teen sensation Fabio Silva arriving.

And, as A Bola added, the chances of Villa Park becoming his destination were over as soon as the Midland giants decided to keep faith in Dean Smith rather than hand the reigns to former Benfica boss Bruno Lage.

“(We received) many approaches, but there were no concrete proposals that would serve the interests of the club,” Braga president Antonio Salvador said of Paulinho.

The best thing Paulinho can do if he wants a move is to get his head down and continue doing what he does best – putting the ball in back of the net.

By the time the market (hopefully) returns to normal next summer, he will be back in the conversation.
