Des concluded on ITV on September 16th but just who played Carl Stottor in the drama? Cradle to Grave fans will recognise actor Laurie Kynaston.
ITV viewers have been starved of new drama series since April when the Covid-19 pandemic caused unprecedented delays and an industry-wide shutdown.
But now, as September is well underway, new series are starting to return after months of repeats and ITV are returning to form with one of the most chilling dramas of the year.
Des, which tells the harrowing tale of notorious serial killer Dennis Nilsen, arrived on our screens on September 14th.
The series details the nefarious deeds of Dennis Nilsen, who is thought to have killed up to 15 people between 1978 and 1983, and more distressingly gives viewers a first-hand account of from one of Nilsen’s would-be victims, Carl Stotter.
Stotter appeared in the third and final episode of Des but just who was the actor who played the traumatised Carl?
Des on ITV
Des arrived on ITV on September 14th, 2020.
The three-episode series, shown on consecutive nights, tells the grim story of Dennis Nilsen, a notorious serial killer who was found guilty of murdering six people and the attempted murder of two more, although the total number of murder victims is thought to be twice that amount.
We follow DCI Peter Jay as Dennis Nilsen is arrested and evidence is gathered into his sordid deeds before the long process of a trial begins which is complicated by Nilsen’s association with biographer Brian Masters.
Who plays Carl Stotter in Des?
- Carl Stotter is played in Des by Laurie Kynaston.
Carl Stotter is introduced in Des’s third and final episode. He miraculously survived an encounter with Nilsen after the serial killer’s dog was found licking his face, showing that he was still clinging to life which inexplicably caused a change of heart in Nilsen.
Stotter was spared by Nilsen but as we see in Des was left traumatised by the event.
Taking on the role of Carl Stottor in Des is the actor Laurie Kynaston.
Born in Shrewsbury on February 24th, 1994, the 26-year-old actor has been working in the acting industry since a young age and made his on-screen debut in 2014. We’ll get onto his previous roles in a moment.
Laurie Kynaston: Films and TV
As mentioned, Laurie Kynaston’s acting debut came in 2014, this was in a single-episode appearance on the BBC medical drama, Casualty.
However, Laurie’s true breakout role came in 2015 when he starred as the comedy writer and radio DJ, Danny Baker, in the series Cradle to Crave which also featured Peter Kay.
Since then, Kynaston has gone on to appear in over 20 acting roles with the most prominent coming in the likes of the 2018 film Undercliffe, ITV’s The Trouble with Maggie Cole, Amazon’s The Feed as well as a single episode of Derry Girls.
