According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Deportivo Municipal playmaker Rodrigo Vilca.

It’s claimed that Newcastle are set to strike a deal worth just £250,000 for Vilca, with a move seemingly imminent.

However, Newcastle plan to loan the 21-year-old out immediately, feeling that he needs to work on the physical side of his game before playing in the Premier League.

Still, Vilca is a promising talent and has been around the Peruvian national team setup under Ricardo Gareca, whilst he can play on either flank even though he is predominantly a number 10.

He has hit three goals and three assists in his last 10 league games for Deportivo Municipal, showing great form in 2020.

Newcastle of course had one exceptional Peruvian in the past, with Nolberto Solano becoming a Tyneside cult hero.

Vilca will hope to follow in his footsteps, though he may face a wait to do so given that he will seemingly be farmed out on loan.

The playmaker will become Newcastle’s sixth summer signing if the deal goes through, following Mark Gillespie, Jeff Hendrick, Jamal Lewis, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser to the Magpies.
