Everton are interested in signing Torino’s Gleison Bremer after Carlo Ancelotti confirmed his desire to sign another centre-back before the transfer window closes, according to Calciomercato.

If the world hadn’t been turned upside down in March, Gabriel Magalhaes could have been plying his trade in the blue of Everton rather than the red of Arsenal right now.

The £22 million powerhouse even underwent a medical with the Toffees in early 2020, according to the Independent.

But while the Merseyside giants exploded out of the blocks in their search for a new centre-back, they clattered into the final hurdle with the global crisis scuppering Gabriel’s move to Goodison Park.

Six months later, with injuries to Jarrad Branthwaite and Mason Holgate leaving Michael Keane and Yerry Mina as the only fully fit defenders at Everton’s disposal, Ancelotti is more desperate than ever for one more signing before the October deadline.

“We have to look (at the market),” the Italian told Reuters after a 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Salford City.

“There is a possibility to find a centre-back and I think we have to.”

He may not be Gabriel but, in Bremer, Everton have identified another classy Brazilian with huge potential.

The Toffees have an almighty scrap on their hands, however. Torino president Urbano Cairo has made it clear Bremer is not for sale.

What’s more, new Torino coach Marco Giampaolo sees the former Atletico Mineiro man as a key part of his plans.
