Danny Mills has claimed that if Barcelona came knocking with a bid of £120 million for Jack Grealish’s services tomorrow then ‘he might be thinking about leaving’ even though he signed a new contract.
Aston Villa’s captain signed a new long-term contract yesterday, as Mills told The Football Show on Sky Sports (15/09/20 at 11:35 am) that not many clubs would have been able to pay the ”absolutely huge’ price-tag on his head.
It was a seemingly quick move by Villa to pen their boyhood fan down to a new deal and he celebrated it in style by scoring a late volley to help his side book their place in the next round of the League Cup.
Former Manchester City defender Mills hasn’t been short of making some ridiculous statements in recent times, and he’s added another one to his list with his comments about Grealish.
“The price-tag for him to leave would have been absolutely huge,” Mills told Sky Sports. “There aren’t too many clubs where he would have paid that.
“There aren’t too many clubs in the top-four or top-six where he would have walked into that team with no direct competition.
“But let’s be honest, if Barcelona suddenly came in tomorrow with £100-120 million bid then every chance he might re-consider and then he might be thinking about leaving in that instance.”
For Villa and Dean Smith, this is now a great opportunity to try and build a solid team around Grealish’s talents and try to push the team forward.
The likes of Matty Cash, club-record signing Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez have been snapped up by the club this summer – and it doesn’t seem as though Villa are going to stop there.
The Express & Star claim that Villa could be adding some much-needed speed to their wide areas with Lyon’s Bertrand Traore and Werder Bremen star Milot Rashica on their hitlist.
