Who is Jaron Lanier?
Jaron Lanier is one of several contributors who appear in The Social Dilemma documentary.
The 60-year-old, who was born in New York on May 3rd, 1960, is widely regarded as one of the leading minds in the world of virtual reality and as well as being a computer scientist, is also a philosophic writer and music composer.

This apparent wealth has been accrued by Jaron Lanier over an almost 40-year career which began in the 1980s when he worked at Atari alongside the creator of the data glove, Thomas Zimmerman.
After Atari hit financial difficulties in the mid-80s thanks to the video game crash in 1983, Jaron left Atari to set up VPL Research with Thomas Zimmerman which beccame the first company to produce and sell VR goggles and gloves.
Lanier later went on to work on apps for Internet2 and became an Interdisciplinary Scientist at Microsoft in the late 2000s.
