Brentford have made it clear they have no plans to sell reported Leeds United, Aston Villa and West Ham United target Rico Henry before the transfer window slams shut, according to Sky Sports.

Thomas Frank’s Bees may have lacked a sting during their play-off final defeat to Fulham but, just because they missed out on promotion to the Premier League, don’t assume this talented crop of players is destined to be broken up.

Crystal Palace-bound Said Benrahma is set to follow top scorer Ollie Watkins out the door.

However, Brentford have succeeded in batting away interest in goalkeeper David Raya and winger Bryan Mbuemo, while Josh DaSilva, Pontus Jansson and Ethan Pinnock are sticking around for another tilt at the Championship title.

And, according to Sky, the Londoners are refusing to consider offers for Henry either, the £5 million left-back who had been tipped to reunite with former Griffin Park boss Dean Smith at Aston Villa.

The Daily Mail reported in August that Leeds, West Brom, Brighton and West Ham were also interested in the former Walsall flyer, who was famously compared to Ashley Cole by the current Villa Park boss in 2015.

“He’s been excellent. If I were to liken him to anyone it would be a young Ashley Cole. And it’s up to him how far he can go in the game,” Smith told BBC Sport.

Matt Targett is expected to start the season as Smith’s first-choice left-back, although Neil Taylor offered a reminder of his talents with a pinpoint assist for Watkins’ debut goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win at Burton Albion.

Leeds, meanwhile, have just one senior left-sided defender in their ranks.

And it’s fair to say injury-hit Barry Douglas has fallen short of the lofty expectations that followed his 2018 arrival from Wolves.
