Aston Villa’s reported chase for Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has taken a twist.

The Independent reported this week that Martínez has agreed personal terms with Villa, and that Arsenal have ‘reluctantly decided’ to sell him and will continue talks with the Villans.

The Express & Star added that the two Premier League clubs are likely to reach an agreement over the transfer of the Argentine goalkeeper in the next week.

However, Football.London and The Guardian has now reporting that Brighton and Hove Albion have joined the race for the 28-year-old, with the Gunners looking for £20 million.

The Guardian has reported that Brighton have exceeded Villa’s offer of £15 million for Martinez, who will not be in the squad for Arsenal’s Premier League game against Fulham today.

Football.London has claimed that Martinez – described as “phenomenal” by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in Football.London in July 2020 – has agreed personal terms with both Brighton and Villa.

Blow for Aston Villa?

This latest reported development is a blow for Villa, as it means that that the Villans will have to increase their offer.

Martinez reportedly seems to be happy to go to either Villa or Brighton, if he has agreed personal terms with both clubs, and one suspects that Arsenal will sell him to whoever pays more.
