After nearly two years since Overlord’s third season concluded, fans of the hit anime are starting to ask whether or not the series will ever return for season 4?

As is the nature of adapting novels or manga, anime fans are used to long breaks between seasons but after a certain amount of time, they start to worry about potential cancellations.

It’s been nearly two years since season 3 of the hit dark fantasy anime ‘Overlord’ concluded, but with a suspicious silence surrounding the series, many fans are growing concerned that the show may not return.

Will there be a season 4 of Overlord?

  • At the time of writing, a fourth season of Overlord has not been officially confirmed by Madhouse animation studios.

When the third season of Overlord concluded back in October 2018, not many of us would have thought we would go two years without any type of confirmation for a fourth season. That being said, fans of Overlord are already used to long hiatus’ between seasons, so this is not necessarily surprising.

Thankfully, we do have an indication that there will eventually be a fourth instalment of Overlord. Speaking at the 2019 AnimagiC convention, scriptwriter Kugane Maruyama revealed that season 4 was “extremely likely” to be produced.

Overlord season 4 release date…

With Overlord yet to be officially renewed, there is no information that indicates when season 4 would release but we expect a fall-2021 premiere.

With no official confirmation that the series will be produced, don’t expect Overlord to return with season 4 anytime in the near future.

However, we think that production on the fourth season will depend on the release schedule of the light novel and manga series – both of which released their latest volumes in March of this year.

Assuming the anime is waiting for more source material to come out, the production on season 4 would depend on when the next volumes are released.

Iseki Quartet season 3…

Whilst Overlord is yet to return with season 4, its crossover series Iseki Quartet has been renewed for a third season.

Iseki Quartet is arguably the best crossover series in the world, with characters from Overlord, KonoSuba, Re:Zero and Tanya the Evil all interacting brilliantly.

A third season was confirmed earlier this year, so whilst it may be a while before we get an Overlord original anime return, at least we get to see more Ainz content once again soon.

We will bring you updates on the future of Overlord as soon as more information is officially confirmed, so keep checking back in.
