Micah Richards has told the Daily Mail that Everton’s move for James Rodriguez is so exciting as it is ‘not normal’.

Everton have stunned many observers by being able to bring in Rodriguez from Real Madrid on a permanent deal.

Although the Colombian may not have made too much of an impact in recent seasons, he remains an outstanding talent and a seriously high profile addition for a club without European football on offer.

And Richards suggests that he can’t wait to see Rodriguez in action at Goodison Park now.

“I’m going to go with James Rodriguez,” Richards, who works as a regular pundit on Sky, said, when asked which Premier League signing he was most excited by.

“It would be easy to roll out Kevin De Bruyne or Mohamed Salah but I love the fact Everton have made this signing. I don’t mean this disrespectfully but it’s not normal for Everton to sign someone of his calibre.

“I played with Juan Cuadrado, his Colombia team-mate, at Fiorentina and he used to rave about James. If he shows anything like the form he did at the 2014 World Cup, he will be a sight to behold.”

It is thought that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti had a big influence on helping the Toffees pull off the addition of Rodriguez.

Ancelotti has worked with Rodriguez twice before and has an excellent relationship with the playmaker.

Rodriguez will surely go straight into Everton’s starting line-up upon his arrival, as Ancelotti’s side badly lacked creativity from midfield areas last term.

Everton are in action for the first time this season on Sunday, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur.
