Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a bid rejected for Porto winger Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona, with the Portuguese champions refusing to sell for any less than the Mexican’s £25 million release clause, according to A Bola.
If anyone had any lingering doubts about Jorge Mendes’ influence over the Iberian transfer market, they will have been emphatically dispelled over the last week.
A matter of days after Wolves smashed their transfer record to sign 18-year-old Fabio Silva for £35 million, another Mendes client arrived at Molineux in the form of Portuguese U21 international midfielder Vitor Ferreira.
According to reports on the continent, Wolves are now looking to sign a third Porto player in barely a blink of an eye.
But Corona is no Mendes client, nor is he an unproven youngster, a la Silva or Ferreira.
The 27-year-old speed-machine was one of their key players as Porto wrestled the league crown back from bitter rivals Benfica last season, producing a remarkable 21 assists in all competitions and 14 in the top flight.
With Nuno ‘desperate’ to bring in a new right-wing back before the window slams shut, according to the Birmingham Mail, the tricky and tenacious Corona could even represent an upgrade on the now-departed Matt Doherty.

A Bola claims that Wolves have made an offer of around £20 million, although they will have to raise that by a further £5 million to lure Raul Jimenez’s Mexican teammate to the Black Country.
Interestingly, Corona won the first of his two Primeira Liga titles under none other than Nuno in 2018.
