Interest from Everton and West Ham United could derail Valencia’s attempts to sign the Benfica winger, Jota, according to reports in Portugal.
Record reported on Monday that Jota was very close to joining the Spanish side on loan.
But the same publication now claims that Everton and West Ham are fighting for the 21-year-old.
Jota, who can play on either flank, as a central striker or just behind one, has scored or assisted five goals in 34 games for Benfica.
But he only started six times last season in all competitions and it is perhaps no surprise to see him linked with moves elsewhere.
West Ham sold Grady Diangana to West Bromwich Albion last week, but still boast plenty of options in Jota’s primary position, out wide – as do Everton.
Both West Ham and Everton already employ a number of Portuguese speakers, who could help Jota to settle in England.
The Lisbon-born player came through the ranks at Benfica, where he signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal in January, and has earned nine caps for his country’s Under-21 side.
