Ireland slipped to a surprise defeat on Sunday evening, as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Finland.

Stephen Kenny suffered his first defeat as Ireland boss, with Fredrik Jensen scoring the winner just 19 seconds after his introduction as a substitute.

Kenny went with a youthful side containing the likes of Aaron Connolly, Adam Idah and Jayson Molumby, but Ireland fell flat with a poor display.

The result means Ireland have taken just one point from their first two UEFA Nations League games, and are already five points adrift of Wales.

Tottenham fans may have been interested to see how Matt Doherty fared, especially as he played at right back in a back four.

The 28-year-old usually played as a right wing back at Wolves, but will likely drop into a back four at Tottenham – and fans weren’t too impressed with his display.

Ireland supporters felt that Doherty was ‘massively off the pace’ and ‘very poor’, with one major concern coming up repeatedly.

Some fans believe that Doherty isn’t suited to playing in a back four, and that could be of concern to Tottenham given that it will likely be his role under Jose Mourinho.
