Fabrizio Romano has suggested to the Last Word on Spurs that Erik Lamela does not want to leave Tottenham Hotspur as he believes he can make a big impact next season.

Tottenham have had interest in Lamela this summer, with some Italian clubs coming in to sign him.

However, Lamela’s departure from Spurs is not believed to be imminent, as the Argentine winger is very happy at the club.

“For Lamela there has been some contact from Italian clubs but the player is happy at Tottenham,” Romano said. “He believes that next season he can do something good.”

Lamela has already scored during Tottenham’s pre-season, after curling in an excellent free kick.

Lamela often is one of Tottenham’s stand out performers in the build up to the campaign, but he has struggled to consistently produce over the duration of a season throughout his entire time at Tottenham so far.

Mourinho does seem to like the 28-year-old though, and he used him fairly frequently as an impact sub last season.

Lamela looks set to be a covering option again this time around, but he should get plenty of opportunities at Tottenham, as the Lilywhites have such a large volume of fixtures to play.

Spurs begin their Premier League campaign on September 13th, when they take on Everton.
