Following the news that Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is cancelled, people are concerned if the one in Cardiff is still going ahead.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected a number of things this year. From concerts to annual events, a lot of gigs have been cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.

And while many people’s plans for the summer were dashed due to ongoing coronavirus cases, many were looking forward to quality time with friends and family during Christmas.

However, after the news that Winter Wonderland won’t be happening this year, people wonder whether the one in Cardiff, which is smaller in size, might get cancelled too.

Their statement read:

“It is with a heavy heart we share that Hyde Park Winter Wonderland will not be taking place this year. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland has always been about bringing friends and family together in a fun, safe and interactive environment to celebrate the festive season.”

The statement continued:

“However, in light of ongoing health concerns, travel restrictions and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, and considering the size and scale of this event, we just couldn’t find a way to do that without compromising the magical attractions, shows, rides, bars and experiences that make Hyde Park Winter Wonderland so special.”

So, is Cardiff Winter Wonderland going ahead?

Unconfirmed at the moment.

According to the event’s Facebook update from March this year, Cardiff Winter Wonderland is supposed to go ahead as planned.

Their latest statement on Facebook said:

“Every year we adopt this site from the local Council so we can bring Winter Wonderland to Cardiff. Our site build usually starts in October and our event finishes early January, with the site usually passed back to the Council in March.”

Since their site build starts in October, which is in a few weeks’ time, Cardiff Winter Wonderland should confirm if the annual event would be going ahead amid the Hyde Park cancellation.
