Liverpool fans on Twitter were pleased for Conor Coady after the Wolves defender earned his maiden England call over the weekend.

After Harry Maguire was withdrawn, Gareth Southgate decided that the Anfield academy product was his replacement.

Coady is a boyhood Liverpool fan and he came through the ranks on Merseyside, so it is understandable why fans of his former club are so happy for him.

There were some who even stated that they would welcome the Wolves captain back to the club, especially given that they are potentially in need of another centre-back after Dejan Lovren’s departure.

Coady would add great squad depth and quality for Klopp. His ability to lead, understanding of the club, European experience, and now international experience would be very useful.

Nonetheless, Coady will meet up with his national teammates at St George’s Park today and he will be hoping to feature during these up and coming UEFA Nations League matches.

There could be the possibility that Coady starts alongside Joe Gomez at the heart of England’s defence, with Eric Dier, Michael Keane and Tyrone Mings also fighting for those spots.

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

The Three Lions will travel to Iceland and Denmark for their respective matches, as Southgate hopes to start off this tournament in a positive fashion.

Nonetheless, this was the reaction from the Liverpool faithful after one of their own got called up by his country for the first time:

@Adammisc20: Honestly I’ll take him back and let him have Lovren role.
