According to Marca, reported Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton and Sheffield United target Darwin Nunez favours a move to Benfica this summer.

The Almeria striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.

A report earlier this month by La Voz de Almeria cited the Blades as suitors.

Calciomercato, meanwhile, claimed Southampton and Brighton were keen with German side Wolfsburg matching the Seagulls’ offer of around £18 million.

But the Premier League trio are seemingly set to miss out on his signature.

Marca add that Nunez’s agent is in talks with Benfica, while the Uruguayan striker has his heart set on a move to the Portuguese giants with Almeria seeking £22 million.

Such a fee could surpass the Spanish second division record, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s switch to Chelsea some 20 years ago still the highest figure paid.

But many will argue Nunez is worth it after an excellent campaign.

The 21-year-old, who notched 16 goals in 30 La Liga 2 games, has enormous potential.

Nunez is quick and strong while having good instincts. Former Napoli man Mariano Bogliacino  told Radio Kiss Kiss how the Uruguayan is similar to Edinson Cavani.

“Nunez exploded two years ago in Uruguay. He is a fast, very strong attacker with physical strength and good instincts, like Cavani. He can thrive in the penalty area,” Bogliacino shared.

Brighton, Sheffield United and the Saints will be disappointed to miss out but with Benfica offering Champions League football, they should understand Nunez’s position.
