Ainsley Maitland-Niles proved to Mikel Arteta on Saturday why he deserves to stay at Arsenal amid speculation about his future.
After the versatile player won Man of the Match during Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool, Arteta stated the Maitland-Niles needs to ‘convince’ him that he is capable of producing the goods on a consistent basis and, at this moment in time, he’s proving he ‘can do it’, as quoted by Goal.
A number of Premier League clubs have been keen on Maitland-Niles’ services, with the Telegraph previously linking Newcastle to his signature and Wolves also being keen on his talents, according to the Express.
There’s no doubt that Arsenal need major changes to their squad, especially in defence, but Maitland-Niles is an individual who simply cannot leave the building.
Arteta has laid down some impressive foundations during his short time in North London, and if he is to get Arsenal back to the top, then he needs to make sure each brick is cemented down correctly so he can build his way back to the top.
A player like Maitland-Niles is proving that he can be reliable during this long-term process, as his performances during the big games, in particular, have been pretty impressive.

- Thomas Partey
45 million
- Mesut Ozil

It could be argued that Arteta is trying to get the best out of his players by dangling some of them in the transfer window because one thing is for sure he is getting a strong response from Arsenal’s academy product.
This is what he said about his player: “He has to be able to convince me every day in training that he can compete at this level – not once every three months but every three days.
“The way he’s playing at the moment shows me that he can do it. His mentality, the way he is going about every single detail for the preparation of a football game is much better than before.
“I’m delighted and very happy for him as he’s changing a lot of things around him to become the player that he can be.”
