The Germany centre-back Robin Koch has told Freiburg teammates he will leave the club’s training camp on Friday evening ahead of a move to Leeds United, according to Kicker.
The website had claimed earlier that an unnamed English club had emerged as rivals of both Leeds and Newcastle United in the pursuit of Koch’s signature.
But it is now said that – after another competitor, Lazio, exited the running – the 24-year-old is bound for West Yorkshire, where he should ‘stopover’ before linking up with the German national team on Monday.
Leeds and Freiburg have agreed on a basic fee in the region of €13 million (around £11.6m), plus add-ons, for Koch, according to Kicker.
The former Kaiserslautern player should help to fill the void left by the return of Ben White to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Leeds had also bid, unsuccessfully, for the Lazio centre-back Luiz Felipe, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi.
The website claimed Lazio wanted £35m for the Brazilian, around £8m more than the Whites are said to have offered.
