Queens Park Rangers have shown an interest in signing West Ham United midfielder Josh Cullen, according to West London Sport.

While Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to put together a squad full of hungry young talent at the London Stadium, it remains to be seen whether the Essex-born 24-year-old still has a future in claret and blue.

Cullen has just a year left on his contract and has not made a Premier League appearance since the 2017/18 campaign.

With West Ham seemingly intent on bringing in further midfield reinforcements despite handing Tomas Soucek a permanent contract, it seems that a parting of the ways would be the best solution for everybody involved.

A tigerish and technically gifted footballer, Cullen would certainly fit in nicely alongside Luke Amos at the heart of Mark Warburton’s QPR midfield.

Especially if Lee Bowyer’s gushing praise of the former Charlton Athletic loanee is anything to go by.

“He’s better than I was [at that age],” said Bowyer, who was strutting his stuff in the Champions League rather than the Championship in his early-20s.

“I was delighted [to sign him]. I know he’s got the experience and he’s a young lad that can play football and gets into the box. He’s an all-around midfielder.”

Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy even compared Cullen to Leeds United legends Johnny Giles and Billy Bremner due to his ‘very good’ technical ability (Irish Examiner).

West London Sport suggests that Cullen could have been used as part of the deal that would have seen Eberechi Eze swap Loftus Road for West Ham.

QPR were hoping to strike an agreement to bring Hammers misfit Jordan Hugill back, after he scored 15 goals during an impressive Championship loan spell in 2019/20.

Hugill has since joined Norwich City instead.
