Jacob Murphy would be open to leaving Newcastle United to join Sheffield Wednesday, Yorkshire Live claims.
Murphy spent last season on loan at Wednesday, and the idea of a return to Yorkshire apparently appeals to the wide-man, who has struggled for game time at Newcastle.
The 25-year-old joined the Magpies in 2017, but he has barely featured for them since 2019.
Murphy has been sent out on a series of loan spells and it now seems that his time at St. James’ Park could be coming to an end.
Murphy is highly rated at Wednesday, and the thought of a move back to Hillsborough apparently appeals to him.
When Murphy signed for Newcastle Rafael Benitez labelled him a ‘talented’ player on the BBC, but he has never quite progressed as much as the Magpies were hoping.
Murphy has proven effective at Championship level, but when given a chance in the Premier League, he has only had minimal impact.
With Newcastle having plenty of options out wide, Murphy’s chances of breaking back into Steve Bruce’s squad now seem minimal.
And it could well be best for both player and club if he is to depart this summer.
